History Groups simplify the process of setting up a historical reports and make the productivity of XLReporter that much richer.

First, configure the historical pens using the built-in tag browser, and for each pen, select one of the many aggregate calculations.  Then, specify the time parameters to define the time frame and intervals over which you would like to retrieve data.  In addition, some servers may require configuration on how the raw data should be retrieved.

When executed, the history group returns a column of values for each historical pen selected based on the time interval.  

For optimal presentation, the table can immediately be formatted and analyzed by XLReporter's management functions.  This includes fitting the data to charts or updating Excel calculations.

The time frame parameters provide maximum flexibility to support many report styles.  Relative time settings serve the time based reports, e.g., over the last day or last shift, where parameterized settings allow a batch report to specify its start and end times.

History Groups can be used in automated mode (triggered by XLReporter's scheduler) or on-demand (triggered by a User request).
